Happy New Year 2026: A Brighter Start for Aba as Geometric Power Resolves Gas Supply Crisis

Happy New Year 2026: A Brighter Start for Aba as Geometric Power Resolves Gas Supply Crisis

Happy New Year, Nigeria! As we step into the first day of 2026, we at Doowe Gas want to wish you a year filled with innovation, growth, and—most importantly—uninterrupted power.

There is no better way to kick off January 1st than with a victory for the energy sector. If you are living or doing business in the “Enyimba City,” your new year is already looking significantly brighter.

The Dark Side of December: Why Your Christmas was Dim

Let’s be honest: December 2025 was tough. While we all wanted to celebrate the festivities with bright lights and cold drinks, a nationwide gas crisis left many Nigerian homes in total darkness. The culprit? An explosion on the Escravos-Lagos Gas Pipeline on December 10, which authorities linked to vandalism.

We felt the “agitation” everywhere. When the gas stopped flowing, the national grid buckled. Even the most efficient power plants found themselves starved of the fuel needed to keep your lights on. It’s a recurring heartbreak for Nigerians: having so much natural gas beneath our feet, yet sitting in the dark because of infrastructure gaps.

The Aba Breakthrough: Is Geometric Power Back Online?

The good news we’ve all been waiting for is finally here. As of Monday night, December 29, the 188MW Geometric Power Plant in Osisioma, Aba, successfully resumed full operations.

Through a strategic partnership with Heirs Energies Ltd, natural gas supply has been restored to the plant’s turbines. This isn’t just a win for the company; it’s a massive win for you. If you are in any of the nine local government areas within the Aba “Ring-fenced” area, you can finally expect the steady, quality electricity that was promised.

We owe this update to the Electricity Consumers Association of Nigeria (ECAN), who confirmed that Geometric Power was the first to bounce back from the national crisis. They were the last to cut power to their customers and the first to bring it back—showing that “embedded power” is truly the future of energy in Nigeria.

Nigeria vs. Algeria: Why Are We Still Waiting for Light?

At Doowe Gas, we often look at the bigger picture. It is mind-blowing to realize that Nigeria is blessed with a “superabundance” of gas—more than any other African nation.

Take Algeria, for example. They have only a fraction of the gas reserves we possess, yet they’ve used that resource to solve their electricity challenges completely and build world-class infrastructure. The resolution of the crisis at Geometric Power proves that when we prioritize gas-to-power infrastructure, things work. But as an industry, we must ask: When will we stop rationalizing gas and start utilizing it like the global giant we are?
