Cooking Gas Prices are Finally Dropping: Is the “N1,000 per KG” Dream Finally Here?

Cooking Gas Prices are Finally Dropping: Is the “N1,000 per KG” Dream Finally Here?

Tired of the “price-hike anxiety” every time your cylinder feels light? There’s finally some breathing room as cooking gas prices begin to stabilize across Nigeria, bringing much-needed relief to our kitchens and businesses.

After a rocky end to 2025, where we saw prices skyrocket to as high as N2,000 per kg in some areas, the market is finally showing signs of “calming down.” At Doowe Gas, we’ve been tracking these trends closely, and we have some updates that will help you plan your energy budget for the new year.

The Problem: Why Did Cooking Gas Prices Go “Up-and-Down” in 2025?

If you felt the pinch in September and October last year, you weren’t alone. The severe scarcity we all experienced wasn’t just “market forces”—it was fueled by a major rift between the Dangote Refinery and PENGASSAN (the oil and gas senior staff union).

This standoff led to a shutdown of gas facilities, creating a massive supply gap. For many of us, this meant trekking further and paying nearly double just to keep our stoves burning. It was a classic case of supply-chain “wahala” that left retailers and consumers stranded.

The Agitation: Are We Really Out of the Woods?

While we are seeing prices hover between N1,000 and N1,400 per kg depending on your location in Lagos, Ogun, or Oyo, the question remains: Is this permanent?

Currently, retail outlets on the street are selling around N1,300–N1,400 because of logistics and “last-mile” costs. If you go directly to major gas plants, you might find it as low as N900 to N1,050. But for the average Nigerian, the dream is to see gas consistently stay below N1,000/kg. This isn’t just about saving money; it’s about making sure more families can afford “clean cooking” instead of returning to charcoal or firewood.

The Solution: Better Supply and “Smart” Innovations

The good news? Supply is improving. Major offtakers are now receiving steady gas in Apapa, and the Dangote Refinery has promised to further crash prices by selling directly to the market. But the real game-changer isn’t just about the price—it’s about how we access energy.

Introducing the 24-Hour “Unmanned” Fuel Station

While we fix the gas supply, the retail sector is getting a digital makeover. A.A. Rano has just unveiled a partnership with Petrosoft to launch 24-hour unmanned fuel stations starting January 2026.

What does this mean for you?

  • No More “Short-Changing”: Smart pumping technology ensures you get exactly what you pay for.

  • Zero Man-Hours Lost: No waiting for attendants; you pay digitally and dispense yourself.

  • 24/7 Access: Whether it’s 2 AM or 2 PM, you can refuel at any of the 200 retail outlets across Nigeria and our borders.

At Doowe Gas, we believe that this blend of stabilizing prices and high-tech retail is the only way to truly power the “New Nigeria.”
