New York, NY — At a high-level roundtable co-hosted on September 24, 2025 by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy and the President of the Corporate Council on Africa, the newly-formed USLPG Energy Consortium, led by YAATRA Ventures and Worthington Enterprises, announced the signing of a strategic Memorandum of Understanding to deploy advanced smart LPG technologies and infrastructure across Africa. The signing was witnessed by U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright.
The agreement marks the launch of Phase 1 of USLPG’s $10 billion, 10-country initiative to expand clean energy access and reduce reliance on biomass fuels in Africa. Phase 1—covering Namibia, Kenya, South Africa, and Ghana—represents an estimated $3.8 billion in U.S. LPG fuel and infrastructure investments, including import terminals, storage facilities, power plants, and smart LPG cylinders.
The USLPG Consortium brings together leading U.S. and African energy companies, such as Worthington Enterprises Inc., Clarke Energy, In Africa, Energy Trading Company, and Skoot Technologies Limited. The collaboration is central to USLPG’s mission: to help 85–90% of Africa’s population transition from biomass to cleaner LPG, improving health, boosting economic growth, and preserving forests, while increasing US energy exports. The USLPG initiative aims to address two critical barriers to LPG adoption: insufficient supply and inadequate distribution and household adoption infrastructure.
“Every year, more than two million people die prematurely because they lack access to clean cooking fuels. That is a tragedy we can fix with affordable and reliable modern energy solutions. With American fuels and technology as well as strong partnerships, we can improve the lives of more than two billion people. Today’s signing ceremony demonstrates the willingness of American companies to help solve this challenge and is a reminder to the world of energy’s potential to transform human lives.” Chris Wright, U.S. Secretary of Energy
“The USLPG is more than a business investment initiative—it’s a commitment to transforming energy access for millions of households and industries across Africa. By leveraging U.S. LPG supply, technology, and investment, we are building the infrastructure that will power economic growth, improve the lives of women and health of families for generations to come.” Rajakumari Jandhyala, CEO, YAATRA Ventures
“Worthington is proud to bring our smart LPG technologies to this transformative initiative. Together with USLPG, we will deliver innovative, scalable solutions that make clean cooking and reliable energy a reality for communities that need it most.” Joe Hayek, CEO, Worthington Enterprises
“Skoot Technologies is bringing integrated supply, delivery and payment platform, to expand last-mile LPG networks into peri-urban and rural households. We are proud to be an investor and implementing partner of USLPG, working alongside American companies”. Sacha Cook, CEO, Skoot Technologies
The USLPG initiative is engaging with the U.S. Export-Import Bank and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation to explore financing support as part of U.S. commitment to driving U.S. business solutions and FDI into Africa enterprises advancing US-Africa commercial relations. It is also working closely with the World LPG Association and the Worthington Companies Foundation Clean Cooking Fund to accelerate adoption and awareness.
