The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, has said that Nigeria and indeed the NNPC Ltd will witness a remarkable progress in the quest to make natural gas the pivotal resource for inclusive and sustainable development.
Bashir, said with the emergence of Nigeria’s candidate Dr. Philip Mshelbila, Managing Director of Nigeria LNG Ltd as the new Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), Nigeria is not on global map of countries that has capacity to propel economic growth through gas development.
The NNPC Ltd also congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his role in the emergence of of Mshelbila, describing it as a historic moment for Nigeria and a testimony to the Federal Government’s Gas Agenda aimed at utilizing natural gas as a major fuel for industrial growth and economic development.
Mshelbila, who was elected at the Forum’s 27th Ministerial Meeting held in Doha, Qatar, on Thursday, succeeds Algeria’s Mohamed Hamel as the 5th scribe of the global organisation, which has been a leading voice in positioning natural gas as a cornerstone of global sustainable development.
Ojulari said: “NNPC Ltd is proud of what Mshelbila has achieved at Nigeria LNG, where he has worked tirelessly to transform Nigeria’s vast gas reserves into export-grade LNG, LPG, and condensates, serving domestic needs and global markets in the process,” he said.
“With this feat, Philip Mshelbila has put Nigeria on the global energy map for good. This shows that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s gas to prosperity agenda aimed at utilising natural gas as the cornerstone of Nigeria’s industrial growth, energy security, and economic transformation is on the right trajectory,” Ojulari added.
The GCEO also congratulated the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, on his emergence as President of the 2026 GECF Ministerial Meeting, saying the Minister has been at the forefront of championing efforts to harness Nigeria’s abundant gas resources for industrialisation and economic development.
The GECF is an international intergovernmental organization that provides a platform for the exchange of experience and information among its Member Countries. Representing the world’s leading gas-exporting nations, the GECF aims to foster constructive dialogue between gas producers and consumers to enhance the stability and security of global gas supply and demand.
The organisation’s membership include Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. It also has Observer Members in Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mozambique, Peru, and Senegal.
Collectively, the GECF Member Countries hold 69 per cent of the world’s proven natural gas reserves, account for 39 per cent of marketed production, contribute 40% of global gas exports, and represent 51% of liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports.
The Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), has reaffirmed its commitment to retain top deepwater and gas production capacity in Nigeria despite operational constraints.
The Company on Tuesday October 14, 2025, stated this when its team received the Executive Vice President (EVP) Upstream, of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Udobong Ntia to its Escravos operations base for an official visit that underscored the strategic importance of Chevron’s role in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
The CNL Executive Leadership Team, led by Segun Kuteyi, Director of Operations/Chief Operating Officer, and Michelle Pflueger, Director of Asset Development/Chief Asset Development Officer, received the EVP and his delegation.
In his remarks, Mr. Kuteyi expressed appreciation for the EVP’s visit, highlighting Chevron’s over 60-year heritage as a key investor and one of the largest oil and gas producers in Nigeria.
“Our business spans exploration, production, gas development, and deepwater operations—including the Agbami Field, one of Nigeria’s largest deepwater discoveries. At the core of our business is the Chevron Way, which outlines our core beliefs, values, and purpose: delivering affordable, reliable, and ever cleaner energy; promoting human ingenuity to solve energy challenges; and operating with trust, integrity, and accountability,” Segun noted.
During the visit, the EVP was briefed on Chevron’s integrated operations, which include conventional assets both onshore and offshore, the Escravos Gas Plant (EGP), and the Escravos Gas-to-Liquids (EGTL) facility—one of only five such plants globally. The presentation covered major accomplishments, business planning, production forecasts, operational challenges, and Chevron’s innovative approaches to asset integrity and cost management.
The EVP commended Chevron’s partnership with local communities, which has enabled the company to sustain its social licence to operate in regions where other international operators have exited due to operational challenges. He praised Chevron’s innovative use of technology, particularly the deployment of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for asset monitoring and encouraged continued collaboration among industry stakeholders.
“We are proud to be aligned with the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas initiative, and we continue to invest in cleaner energy solutions, reduce routine gas flaring, and build a profitable gas business. Today, 99.9% of our fabrication work is done in-country, reflecting our belief in investing not just in oil and gas, but in people, partnerships, and the future of Nigeria,” Segun remarked.
The high point of the visit was a tour of the Integrated Operations Centre, the Tank Farm, and the EGP facilities. The EVP’s engagement concluded on a positive note, reinforcing Chevron’s commitment to unlocking Nigeria’s energy potential and delivering lasting value to its people.
